Sir James Knott Nursery School Vision
At Sir James Knott Nursery School we have carefully crafted a broad, ambitious and inclusive curriculum that enables all learners to reach their full potential. We offer children a unique place to begin their learning journey, valuing the child’s voice and fostering a love for learning with highly engaging and challenging learning environments. We pride ourselves on our play based pedagogy to ensure children become resilient, reflective, and respectful. We have highly skilled and committed staff who support children to research their curiosities and deepen their knowledge, nurturing them to take their place in the wider world. All of this is achieved through positive relationships and a collaborative approach between home and school to ensure that the holistic child is at the heart of all that we do, promoting a joy for life long learning.
Sir James Knott Nursery School Values
It is important that our values underpin everything, our commitment to our school, our children and our community. The values drive the vision, our culture change, priorities and decision making.
We have created our Sir James Knott Nursery School Values in line with the British Values headings of:
1. Democracy- We have a voice
2. Rule of law- We share and take turns
3. Individual liberty- We have a choice
4. Respect- We show respect to everyone and everything
Our staff model and demonstrate these values in daily practice ensuring children know them and are able to use these independently in all aspects of school life.
"Sir James Knott Memorial Nursery School is a welcoming place to learn. Parents and carers value this school. It is a caring and safe place where staff commit to children's learning and well-being. All staff focus on helping every child to flourish and achieve well.
Children settle into school quickly because they are well supported by adults. They enjoy spending time in the exciting outdoor area, where they make potions with eucalyptus leaves and climb in their boat and sing. They make tea together and explore new things. Each activity that teachers set up for children has a reason for being there.
Children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) have their needs met well. With additional teaching support, they access the same learning opportunities as their friends. Parents praise how much staff keep in touch with them and involve them in everything they do for their children".
Historically we have seen huge numbers leave here for their primary education with Kings Priory First School. The school houses 420 pupils aged between 4 and 9 with three mixed ability classes per year group. We have developed strong links with the primary school at Kings Priory, but children begin their education at a variety of Primary Schools and this Nursery is not an automatic feeder setting.
What is the Early Years Foundation Stage?
The Early Years Foundation Stage Framework (EYFS) sets out the learning and development stages for children as they grow from birth to five years. For children in early years education, the EYFS outlines what staff will do to support your child.
The EYFS asserts that children learn and develop through playing, exploring, being active, creative and being asked questions to help their thinking.
We will keep you regularly updated with your child's progress throughout the year.
"At Sir James Knott we promote independence in all children".
PARENTS ARE A CHILD'S FIRST EDUCATOR
As your childs' first and most enduring educator, you play a big part in how well your son or daughter does in school.
PARTNER WITH US
We invite you to work with our Teacher and Teaching Assistants to help your child get all they can out of their growing years. We will give every parent access to their child's home school link, Seesaw so that they may share home experiences with school and school experiences with home.

Early Years Pupil Premium
Since April 2015, nurseries, schools, child minders and other childcare providers have been able to claim extra funding through the Early Years Pupil Premium (EYPP) to support children’s development, learning and care.
We can use the additional funding in any way we choose to improve the quality of the early years education that we provide for an eligible child. This could include additional training for our staff, investing in partnership working with our colleagues in the area to further our expertise or supporting our staff in working on specialised areas such as speech and language.
It is well documented that high quality early education can influence how well a child does at both primary and secondary school so we want to make the most of this additional funding. You may be aware, if you have older children, that pupil premium has been available for school age children and it has proved to have given a real boost to the children receiving the funding. We want to do the same for our early years children who are entitled to this funding.
Sir James Knott will receive up to £302.10 per year for each eligible child. The EYPP premium provides an extra 53p per hour for 3 and 4 year old children whose parents are in receipt of certain benefits or children who have been in care or adopted from care.
If your child is eligible, the EYPP will provide the nursery with additional funding to enhance the opportunities, experiences and support offered to your child.
Is my child eligible for this funding?
Your child may be eligible of you are in receipt of any of these benefits;
We are also able to receive the additional funding if your child;
When is my child eligible for EYPP?
Your child will be eligible from the term after their 3rd birthday (the same as when they can get the 3 and 4 year old free early education).
What if my child goes to more than one setting?
The setting (preschool, nursery or childminder) will claim EYPP in proportion to the number of hours the child is with them. If your child goes to a maintained nursery the nursery will receive all of this funding.
How to apply?
As part of our admissions arrangements, parents will be informed about EYPP and a form will be included in your child’s admissions pack. Please come and speak to us and we will be able to help and find out if you are eligible for any funding.
What if I don’t apply?
Applying for this funding is voluntary but if you don’t apply, the nursery school will not receive this extra funding which could help your child.
